SHE is known for her smouldering film roles and glittering outfits on the red carpet.

So fans may be surprised by Penelope Cruz’s latest movie character – a buttoned-up missionary with cropped hair.

The 43-year-old plays dour evangelist Pilar Estravados in an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel Murder On The Orient Express, which is out next month.

However the actress seems reluctant to abandon her glamorous side entirely – as she has also posed for a magazine wearing nothing but a luxurious velvet drape.

Following the recent release of Loving Pablo – in which she appears naked as a drug baron’s mistress – she spoke to Esquire about nudity in films. She told the magazine, which is out next week: ‘I thought “there is a character there”. Everyone was really respectful.’
