CITY HELD AT BAY BY BURTON’S BYWATER

-

THEY enjoyed threequarters of possession and all the chances, but high-flying Bristol City endured Friday frustration against strugglers Burton. Lee Johnson was September’s manager of the month in the Championship and though his City side extended their impressive unbeaten run to 12 matches in all competitions, this stalemate wasn’t what anyone expected. The entire game followed a pattern of City playing the ball around trying to pick a way through Burton’s well-organised defensive lines and they couldn’t manage it. Six minutes in, Burton keeper Stephen Bywater saved well from City’s leading scorer Bobby Reid and when the rebound fell for strike partner Famara Diedhiou, Brewers’ captain Jake Buxton slid in to steal the ball away. Bywater stood up bravely to block another Reid effort at his near post as City made all the running. But Burton held firm, with Bywater touching Josh Brownhill’s 30-yarder around the post. Reid saw a goal disallowed because of a foul on Luke Murphy in the build-up.
