Extremism at student fairs
STUDENTS attending freshers’ fairs at universities this year were given leaflets advertising speakers with extreme views, a report claims.
Vulnerable undergraduates were targeted at the welcome events, the report by the Henry Jackson Society think-tank suggested. The society said one example had been at SOAS, University of London, where an event called ILM Fest had been advertised. Omar Suleiman, an Islamic preacher who has previously called homosexuality a ‘repugnant shameless sin’, is billed to speak at ILM Fest.
Yesterday SOAS said it was a public event and the leaflets did not promote hate.
