Nick Clegg ratted on his pledge to back fairer constituency boundaries and cut the number of MPs from 650 to 600. Now it appears that some members of all parties may resist the Boundary Commission’s proposals for seats of equal size. Thus, we may remain saddled with an electoral map 20 years out of date, with an in-built bias against the Tories. One question: how can the plan’s self-interested opponents claim they believe in democracy?
