Abuse of justice

-

THERE is a certain amount of hysteria surrounding sexual abuse cases. I feel I am able to comment on this because decades ago I was subject to a sexual assault in which I was attacked, tied up, blindfolded and assaulted for five hours.

My attacker was charged and the case went to court, twice. On each occasion, a decision could not be reached. This happened in a Crown Dependency, and my name plus that of my attacker was emblazoned all over the newspapers.

Though the judge felt it should go to a third trial, I declined because I simply couldn’t go through it again.

It is dreadful for those children who were sexually abused, but I don’t think dredging it all up will help them, especially if the alleged perpetrator is dead.

The police would be better employed in dealing with crimes happening now rather than concentrating on historic crimes. It is not fair or just to name alleged abusers until they are convicted.
