Joker Curtis is shootout hero

-

GOALKEEPER Curtis Anderson was the hero as England beat Japan on penalties yesterday to reach the last eight of the Under 17 World Cup in India. The Manchester City starlet, who appeared to put off Japan’s penalty-takers by joking around throughout the shootout, saved from defender Hinata Kida before stepping up to stroke home a penalty of his own. England converted all five of their spot-kicks after a goalless draw in Kolkata and now advance to play the USA on Saturday. England came closest to scoring in regulation time through Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster, who struck the outside of a post with a powerful shot. But it was left to the laughing Anderson to get them over the line.
