Moped robber steals woman’s laptop as she sits inside cafe
THIS is the moment a brazen moped robber walks into a busy cafe and pulls a laptop from a woman’s hands.
Moped gangs have plagued London in recent months, with pedestrians targeted for their mobile phones as they walk along the capital’s streets.
But the theft at the Bread and Bean Cafe, Archway, North London – in which the moped is ridden on to the pavement and right up to the entrance – shows the robbers are now targeting people inside shops and businesses.
CCTV shows the victim working on her laptop on a window table at the cafe as the helmet-wearing robber walks in. The thief snatches the computer then runs back out the entrance and jumps on a waiting moped, with his accomplice holding the open door. The pair then speed off. The raid took less than 10 seconds.
Cafe owner Valbona Sadiku said it was the second time moped robbers have targeted the premises in just three weeks. She told MailOn- line: ‘It’s unbelievable that these moped gangs will now actually enter people’s property. It’s gone to another level – it’s horrific.
‘The police said they are putting up signs but that is nonsense.’
A witness to the raid wrote online: ‘So fast, too fast for anyone to react and stop them.’
The cafe’s owners claim a phone is stolen in the area every hour by moped thieves, with some gangs carrying out repeated offences.
Just five miles away, 28-year-old charity worker Abdul Samad was stabbed to death near his home on Monday night by moped muggers who stole his iPhone.
More than 8,000 offences were carried out by criminals on mopeds in London last year. The figure is 16 times than five years ago.
