I stood up to bully Weinstein and he had me fired -- Robert Lindsay
STAGE and screen star Robert Lindsay has accused movie mogul Harvey Weinstein of ruining his film career.
The actor, who starred in BBC comedy My Family, reveals he was dropped from the hit movie Shakespeare In Love after he confronted the sex predator about his high-handed behaviour.
‘Everyone knew what a complete bully he was but were all afraid to stand up to him,’ says Lindsay, 67.
‘When I confronted him little did I know the impact on my career.
‘Having been cast in Shakespeare In Love he told the director: “NO Lindsay.” ’ Robert had earlier appeared in Weinstein’s 1990 film Strike It Rich.
However, despite great success in TV and theatre, three-time Olivier awardwinner Robert found his film career abruptly ended in the late Nineties.
‘He basically halted my film career. Harvey Weinstein represented everything I came to hate about movies — if he owned a movie he owned everyone in it,’ he adds. ‘Let’s not forget money power and abuse go hand in hand in every profession.’
