PICK OF THE DAY
THE GANGES WITH SUE PERKINS, 9PM, BBC1
IN THIS colourful and enjoyable three-part series, Sue Perkins travels 1,500 miles along the ‘beautiful, contradictory and rather pungent’ Ganges river — which is worshipped by Hindus as a living goddess — from its source high in the Himalayas (pictured) to journey’s end at the Bay of Bengal. Though she is, as ever, quick- witted and endearing, it’s not all about fun for Sue, who has had ‘a really horrible year’. As she travels through some of the most chaotic, exciting and spiritual places on Earth, walking in the footsteps of millions of pilgrims turns out to have a profoundly affecting emotional resonance.
