WHY SKINNY TAN DOESN’T HELP YOU LOOK THIN

-

THE makers of Skinny Tan have been sent back to the drawing board after the advertising watchdog ruled it misled customers by claiming it could reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Innovaderma, which bought the self-tan brand in 2015, was found to have violated rules by telling customers the product was natural and would make them look thinner.

Skinny Tan amassed a huge following in Australia and Britain but, after St Tropez fake tan owner PZ Cussons filed a complaint, the Advertising Standards Authority said the firm could no longer refer to its products as ‘number one’ in the market.

It added that the firm could not say its product was natural or had benefits beyond cosmetics, or imply that guarana – a caffeine derivative in its products – could reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Skinny Tan was founded by Essex mums Kate Cotton and Louise Ferguson who became a global success when they appeared on TV show Dragons’ Den in 2013. Innovaderma has removed the offending Facebook advert in question.

Skinny Tan is sold in seven countries and 2,500 shops It’s made from guarana, a caffeine derivative, which it had claimed reduced the appearance of cellulite There are 33 products in the range, including a £24 oil tanner that gives the skin a deeper glow for three to seven hours

The pair appeared on Dragons’ Den and accepted a £60,000 investment from Kelly Hoppen and Piers Linney
