BAE warship tie-up

-

deFenCe firm BAe Systems is teaming up with rival Cammell laird to bid for a £1.25bn contract to build the next UK warship, the Type 31e frigate.

Cammell laird would build and assemble the vessels while BAe would work on the ship’s design and combat systems.

last week BAe announced around 2,000 job cuts, mostly in its military air division but also in cybersecurity and at the docks in Portsmouth, amid falling orders for Typhoon jets.

But its shipbuilding capacity on the river Clyde in Scotland is expected to be full until the mid-2030s. It is making the two Queen elizabeth Class carriers, five offshore patrol vessels and three warships.
