hUnGArIAn airline Wizz Air has taken the first steps in setting up a UK subsidiary to ensure it can keep operating here after Brexit.

The low-cost airline, which is listed in the UK, has applied for an air operator’s certificate and operating licence for Wizz Air UK.

The firm will take over Wizz Air hungary’s existing UK base at luton airport. It’s the latest carrier to take such steps. Jozsef Varadi, chief executive, said the move would ensure the firm was ‘Brexit-ready’.

he said: ‘It is a natural next step ... and will bring additional investment and jobs to our UK base at london luton. The UK remains the single biggest travel market and we are the UK’s eighth largest operator.’
