DE BRUYNE: SILVA ROW LIKE A TIFF WITH WIFE

- By JACK GAUGHAN

KEVIN DE BRUYNE has joked he argues with Manchester City team-mate David Silva just like he argues with his wife. The pair were squabbling as they left the field at half-time during Tuesday’s 2-1 Champions League win against Napoli. But the brilliant Belgian, 26, was trying to complain to the fourth official about the referee’s decision to award Napoli a first-half penalty, which Ederson saved from Dries Mertens. Silva prevented his team-mate from venting his anger, saying, ‘Let’s talk, let’s talk’, but De Bruyne did not take kindly to the intervention (below). De Bruyne said: ‘We just had a little discussion. A minute later, that’s forgotten. I have those (discussions) sometimes with my wife! You too, I suppose. ‘Sometimes it’s needed. Not everything is always positive. But this was something small. I wanted to ask something (to the fourth official), but I wasn’t allowed to. ‘It happens sometimes. People often say or see that I’m frustrated, but that wasn’t the case. I was just a bit annoyed. ‘And for a minute I lost myself. One minute and it’s done. And I don’t mind. At the highest level a discussion can be good sometimes, to get everyone on their toes again.’ De Bruyne added that he is in no rush to sign a new contract, but said his agent Patrick De Koster has spoken to City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain. The midfielder, outstanding this season, is in line for a huge pay rise on his £115,000-a-week deal, which runs until 2021. He said: ‘My agent went already one time to Txiki. Talks are coming. I’m patient anyway, I don’t stress. I have time.’ Meanwhile, Nicolas Otamendi revealed that Pep Guardiola demands every player speaks English at the training ground and that the team eat together after home games. Otamendi, 29, told Fox Sports Radio in Argentina: ‘After games, it is obligatory to eat at the club. ‘Pep is demanding about food and also that we study English, as every meeting is in that language. In December I even have an exam!’
