Soldier’s widow accuses Trump of forgetting his name during call

-

DONALD Trump yesterday became embroiled in a row with the widow of a US soldier after she accused him of not being able to remember her husband’s name when he rang to offer condolences.

Myeshia Johnson, whose husband Sgt La David Johnson was killed in action in Niger, said she was angered by the president ‘stumbling’ over his name moments before she met the coffin carrying his body at an air force base. She said the call ‘made me cry even worse’ as she spoke for the first time in a row that erupted last week after Mr Trump was accused of telling her Sgt Johnson, 25, ‘knew what he signed up for’.

Mrs Johnson told ABC News: ‘ He couldn’t remember my husband’s name. I heard him stumbling on trying to remember my husband’s name and that’s what hurt me most. He risked his life for our country, why can’t you remember his name?’

Mr Trump went on Twitter to deny her account, saying: ‘I had a very respectful conversation... and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation!’
