Beatrice: Mum’s one of the most misunderstood women in world

- By Rebecca English Royal Correspondent

PRINCESS Beatrice has claimed her mother, the Duchess of York, is ‘one of the most misunderstood women in the world’.

The royal, seventh in line to the throne, told Hello! magazine her family had been through some ‘incredibly stressful times’ but insisted her mother ‘created joy’ and ‘inspired her’.

The duchess, known as Fergie, divorced Beatrice’s father, Prince Andrew, in 1996 after she was pictured topless as her financial adviser, John Bryan, sucked her toes by a swimming pool in the South of France.

Following her divorce, profligate spending followed by a string of controversial endorsements have seen the duchess’s financial fortunes rise and fall.

Beatrice, who has also been criticised for her love of luxury holidays and inability to hold down a long-term job, insists her mother is still a role model. The 29-year-old told Hello!: ‘We’ve been through some incredibly stressful times together as a family and every single minute she created joy.

‘I am so lucky that I get to learn from her every single day. I’m inspired by her ability to give, even when she’s going through something hard.’

‘I admire my mother so much because she’s probably one of the most misunderstood women in the world. She has taught me over the years that anything is possible.

‘Her grandmother always said, “When you feel bad about yourself, go out there and do something for somebody else.” That’s an incredible motto that my family has always lived by. My mother is just remarkable.’
