Sex... Scandal... Hugh’s finally found his perfect role!

-

WITH his rackety love life and familiarity with posing for police mugshots, Hugh Grant knows what it’s like to be the subject of lurid headlines.

So he’s taking his latest role, as disgraced former Liberal leader Jeremy Thorpe, in his stride.

Yesterday, the foppish Four Weddings star, 57, looked uncannily like his fellow Oxford graduate Thorpe, with bags under his eyes, a wrinkled brow, creased face and five o’clock shadow.

Grant’s hair was also slicked back and he was dressed in a black suit and Thorpe’s trademark rust-coloured three-quarter-length coat.

The privately educated actor was filming scenes for the BBC’s new miniseries, A Very English Scandal, in Chittlehampton, Devon. Ben Whishaw (best know as Q in the James Bond films) plays Thorpe’s lover, the stableboy Norman Scott.

Thorpe, who died in 2014 aged 85, was alleged to have conspired to kill Scott to stop him making their affair public. He was sensationally acquitted in a 1979 trial at the Old Bailey, but his reputation never recovered.
