Trump’s own senator calls him ‘utterly untruthful’

AN influential Republican senator has launched an extraordinary attack on Donald Trump – saying he is ‘utterly untruthful’ and world leaders know it.

In the latest bout of in-party fighting, Bob Corker said the President ‘debases’ the US and has weakened its global standing. Mr Trump responded on Twitter, calling the Tennessee senator a ‘lightweight’ who ‘couldn’t get re-elected’.

In a CNN interview, Mr Corker said: ‘The President has great difficulty with the truth on many issues.

‘It’s amazing. Unfortunately world leaders are very aware that much of what he says is untrue. Certainly people here are because these things are provably untrue.

‘I don’t know why he lowers himself to such a low, low standard and debases our country in that way but he does.’

‘He is purposely breaking down relationships we have around the world that had been useful to our nation.’

The comments were triggered by a Twitter salvo from Mr Trump in which he anticipated opposition from Mr Corker to tax reforms that the White House is planning to try to push through Congress.
