Why Amanda’s moon question was far out
IT was one small question on a TV show – but a giant faux pas for Amanda Holden.
Some 45 years after the last man stepped foot on the moon, she asked Major Tim Peake if he had stolen a piece as a souvenir.
The British astronaut, 45, who spent six months on board the International Space Station last year, was understandably rather taken aback by the question on ITV’s This Morning yesterday.
Miss Holden, pictured, said: ‘I don’t know if you can answer this as it may be a naughty thing, but when you went to the moon, did you take a piece of the moon?’
Major Peake interrupted to say, ‘I wasn’t on the moon, I was in the space station’. He added: ‘Everything is strictly controlled.’
Miss Holden later saw the funny side, tweeting: ‘ Honestly. We howled in the break. #sofunny I’m a t**.’
The last person to walk on the moon was US astronaut Eugene Cernan in 1972.
