May lets out London flat for £10k

-

THERESA May revealed yesterday that she is letting out her central London flat for more than £10,000 a year.

She began doing so for the first time two months after the General Election in June, more than a year after becoming Prime Minister.

Mrs May’s move suggests she feels secure in her official home in Downing Street, despite the poll setback and internal Tory party rumblings.

Property website Zoopla estimates her flat in Westminster is worth more than £800,000 and could rent for more than £2,000 a month, bringing in £24,000-plus a year.

Mrs May made the declaration about the property owned with her husband Philip in the Commons register of interests in which MPs must reveal rental income of more than £10,000 a year.

Prime Ministers often let out their London homes while in power. David Cameron earned more than £500,000 from his home in Notting Hill when living in No 10, according to tax returns.
