Here we go again! It’s the 60 days of Xmas

- By Andy Dolan

IT takes John and Jean Copestick five weeks to decorate their house for Christmas.

So it is little surprise that they like to get the most out of their efforts, with their impressive display already set up a full 60 days before the big event.

Their winter wonderland is adorned with snowmen, tinsel, and flashing lights, as well as a giant Santa Claus figure and over 10,000 fairy lights.

‘I know it’s a little early, but we just love Christmas,’ Mr Cope- stick said. The pensioners, both 74, have been decking the halls – and walls, driveway and gardens – of their four-bedroom home for 30 years. Indeed, their oldest decorations are 32 years old.

Mrs Copestick said they decorate their home in Stirchley, Birmingham, so children from nearby Allens Croft Primary can have a tour of the house.

‘If you saw their faces when they walk in, you’d understand,’ she ones. said. They ‘Especially think its just the magic.’ little

The decorations cost them £50 a fortnight in electricity, Mrs Copestick said. ‘It used to cost us a lot ... but now we might put the lights on for an hour or 90 minutes. Generally though passersby just knock on the door and ask if we can light them up.’

The couple keep the lights up until Twelfth Night, in keeping with tradition, but Mrs Copestick said: ‘If I had my way, they’d stay up all-year-round!’
