Sanne Den BeSTen (right), who will join louis Maskell and Julian Bleach in West end-bound musical The Grinning Man.

Den Besten plays Dea, a blind woman who was the childhood love of title character Grinpayne, played by Maskell.

The show, which originated at the Bristol Old Vic, will run at Howard Panter’s Trafalgar Studios on Whitehall from December 5. The Grinning Man is based on Victor Hugo’s The Man Who laughs. Director Tom Morris described Grinpayne as having a Joker-like smile on his ruined face, and the piece as an almost Phantom-style love story between the disfigured man and the beautiful, sightless woman he grew up with.

Tim Phillips and Marc Teitler composed the score; and the book was written by Carl Grose.

ewan Black and Sean Kingsley were also in the Bristol production with Maskell and Bleach, and will be moving with it to the Trafalgar.

Den Besten, who was in Mamma Mia!, is new to The Grinning Man company; as are Mark anderson, amanda Wilkin, Julie atherton, Sophia Mackay and Jim Kitson.
