Wild ideas
FERAL families and extreme unschooling are refreshing concepts (Mail). It takes the strain and responsibility out of conventional parenting and lets the kids take over.
This is the way towards a more integrated, gender-free society where everyone does exactly as they please without the annoying constraints of nuisance parents and teachers trying to apply rules.
Imagine the conversation between a feral child and their parent — sorry, facilitator. ‘That kid next door keeps using words I don’t get. Can I smash his face in?’ ‘Yeah. Why are you asking me?’
‘Can I drill a hole in the gas pipe?’ ‘I’m busy, kid. Make a decision. Go figure.’
Imagine a future when such an approach became the norm? The ‘ extreme unschooled’ would be living in the ruins of civilisation. Some might whisper about the time when children went to school and had nice homes before discipline, rules, schools and learning how to contribute to society were scrapped. JOHN MANSFORD,
