GB star faces four-year ban for steroids
MUHAMMAD ALI, one of the most hyped talents on the British boxing team, is facing a long suspension after testing positive for steroids. The 21-year-old flyweight, who took silver at the 2014 World Youth Championships and competed for Team GB at the Rio Olympics, failed a test in April while fighting for the British Lionhearts against Morocco Atlas Lions in Casablanca. His B sample also tested positive and Ali (right) has been under provisional suspension by the British team since May, with his funding withdrawn while the case is active. He could face up to a four-year ban, though he has requested a hearing with the International Boxing Association anti-doping panel. A GB Boxing statement yesterday said: ‘We are committed to clean sport and we work in partnership with UK Anti-Doping to provide extensive education and support to our boxers on the anti-doping obligations upon them as athletes.’
