Liverpool’s big-money deal for Under 17 hero Brewster

- By SAMI MOKBEL and KIERAN GILL

LIVERPOOL will offer Rhian Brewster a lucrative contract when he turns 18 next year. The 17-year-old, who has rocketed to the nation’s attention due to his goalscoring exploits for England at the Under 17 World Cup, is yet to sign professional terms at Anfield. Indeed, his contractual status has alerted England’s elite clubs, who may be ready to prise him from Anfield. But a deal will be on the table for the teenage forward to sign when he turns 18 in April, and Brewster is expected to put pen to paper. Until the contract is signed, there will remain a degree of doubt over his future. But Liverpool are confident Brewster, who is said to be happy and settled at the club, will follow in the footsteps of fellow teenage hotshot Ben Woodburn

and commit his future to the Anfield giants. Liverpool’s usual policy is not to sign youngsters to professional deals until they turn 18. Wales international Woodburn’s latest deal was announced 10 days after he turned 18. Brewster’s displays for England U17s, particularly his hat-trick against Brazil on Wednesday, have captured the country’s imagination. But his performances in India have not surprised those at Anfield who have huge expectations for him. Having left Chelsea in 2015, Brewster has blossomed at Liverpool’s academy and is viewed as one of their best prospects in years.
