AN EMOTIONAL day. Ruth has been told her lovely blonde hair will fall out as a result of chemo, so she decides to take matters into her own hands and have it cut into a bob. ‘Hair today, gone tomorrow. This costume change is on my terms.’ The next day, Ruth reflects on the pain of cutting her hair and the prospect of losing it all. ‘New hair, who’s this? I won’t lie, hearing The Prof say “You will have to lose all of your hair, Ruth” was harder to deal with than “You have cancer”. This new ’do is me, readying myself for the awful inevitable.’
