Paradox of BBC pay
THE Mail congratulates the highly able Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis on her substantial pay rise, which is said to have lifted her salary above £200,000 after she failed to appear on this summer’s list of BBC stars earning more than £150,000.
One observation. The point of forcing the Corporation to reveal its most pampered employees’ salaries was to persuade it to stop over-paying them at public expense.
So how bitterly ironic that canny feminists have exploited the exercise to twist a tale of profligacy into a scandal about the gender pay gap – which means licence-fee payers having to foot an even larger wages bill. It’s only our money, after all.
