£6,000 Christmas hamper with all the trimmings (but sadly no turkey)

MARMALADE made with champagne, fine wines and £680 worth of caviar – it’s a Christmas blowout fit for millionaires.

And at £6,000, this Fortnum & Mason hamper has everything you’d expect to enjoy the ultimate festive spread.

Everything, that is, except the turkey. For that privilege, families who have already parted with serious cash would have to fork out another £100. Luckily, the upmarket grocer has included a few alternatives in the hamper, including a 5kg ham, a game pie and Glenarm beef.

While the extravagant feast is sure to break most families’ Christmas budgets, those who can afford the expense will enjoy such luxuries as truffle oil, sparkling rum butter and a £427 bottle of red wine.

Dubbed the Imperial Hamper, food and drink comes in five separate baskets, including a picnic rucksack.

Among the nine bottles of wine and spirits is a rare 1996 Chateau d’Yquem white wine which sells for upwards of £200.

For an after-dinner tipple, there’s a 40-year- old port worth £120 and a £165 cognac. And, of course, no festive feast is complete without puddings – although some have been given a modern twist with edible glitter. For breakfast there’s smoked salmon and a rosé fizz, along with Beluga caviar – at £680 for 100g.

Intended to tide the whole family over between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, there are plenty of decadent snacks for between meals including 2kg of handmade chocolates. And after all the food is gone, customers get to keep a branded apron, chef’s hat and tea towel included in the hamper.

Fortnum & Mason has been making hampers since the 1730s, often for affluent customers journeying to their country estates.

Despite the hefty price tag, sales of Fortnum & Mason’s hampers rose by 20 per cent last Christmas – with a particular increase in orders from overseas.

Its cheapest hamper costs £55 and includes teas, shortbread and champagne. Bought separately, a freerange turkey from the store for up to eight people costs £100.

This year Fortnum & Mason, which holds two royal warrants, is going head-to-head with budget supermarket Aldi, which has launched its own hampers. Its most expensive offering is £99.99 – and includes wine, champagne and crackers.
