GREG RUTHERFORD, the 2012 long jump gold medallist, fears he may not be fit enough to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The 30-year-old Briton, who won bronze at Rio 2016, told Radio 5 Live: ‘If I can still win major medals then I will go on as long as my body is able to. But I’m not 25. I’m looking at a couple of years at most.’

KYLE EDMUND is into his third semi-final of the year after breezing past Jan-Lennard Struff at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna. The British No 2, playing in a tournament won by Andy Murray last year, saw off the German world No 51 6-2, 7-5 to book his place in the last four, having reached the semi-finals at Winston-Salem Open and Atlanta Open over the American hard-court swing. Next up will be Lucas Pouille after he beat Richard Gasquet.

SIMONA HALEP is out of the WTA Finals in Singapore, the world No 1 losing to Elina Svitolina in the last round-robin match. Halep had to beat the Ukrainian to advance, but went down 6-3, 6-4. She will lose her crown as the world’s best if Karolina Pliskova wins the title. Caroline Garcia joins Pliskova, Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams in the semis.
