SPARTAK MOSCOW

UEFA have charged Spartak after 18-year-old Liverpool winger Bobby Adekanye was allegedly the target of monkey chants during a UEFA Youth League game last month. Russia insist they don’t have a problem with racism at football but the evidence suggests otherwise. Next summer’s World Cup may tell us more.

BERNARD TOMIC

THE talented Australian has had a terrible 2017 and has seen his world ranking drop more than 100 places to 145. This week the 25-year-old lost in the first round of the Vienna Open to a French qualifier and at one stage was reduced to serving underarm after a run of double faults. Serving underarm is like putting left hand below right in golf — it indicates a problem lies somewhere between one ear and the other.

SCOTT BALDWIN

THE Welsh hooker’s decision to put his hand inside a lion enclosure while at a game park in South Africa resulted in four operations and three games missed for his club Ospreys. It has emerged that doctors told the 29-year-old that the bite could have cost him his hand. There is a lesson here somewhere, albeit a really obvious one.
