We had a couple of glasses of wine – then MP lunged at me
POLITICAL journalist Jane Merrick told of how a Conservative MP drunkenly lunged at her following a lunch 14 years ago.
‘I went out to lunch with a Conservative MP, as lots of lobby journalists do,’ she told BBC news.
‘We had a couple of glasses of wine with lunch and on the way back, I would describe it as an unpleasant lunge towards me. It was humiliating and very unpleasant. But because I was so taken aback by his behaviour... I didn’t challenge him and I just sort of shrank away and then ran back up to my office.’
She added: ‘I didn’t say anything because I was worried about being blacklisted by this MP if he told his colleagues that I could not be trusted at lunch.’
She said she felt ‘guilty’ now for not saying something earlier and said it was ‘concerning’ if the MP still behaved in a similar way.
