May scores AGAIN to press England claims
JONNY MAY will link up with his England teammates in Portugal today buoyed by the late try which maintained his sensational scoring streak since joining Leicester. The 27-year-old wing struck nine minutes from the end as the Tigers moved up to third in the Aviva Premiership table. Receiving a cross-kick from George Ford wide on the left, May left three defenders trailing as he scorched away to claim his 10th try in nine games. It was the confident finish of a player making a castiron case for an England starting place next month. Matt O’Connor, the Tigers director of rugby, said: ‘He’s doing a great job for us. You can’t score the tries he has scored if you’re not working really hard at your game. He’s giving the group an enormous amount of confidence that if we give him the ball he will get over the paint and he’s doing that. He’s got a massive future for us and internationally.’ Leicester went ahead in the 10th minute when Telusa Veainu swerved around Alex Tait and back inside to touch down. The full back off-loaded for Ben Youngs to score the Tigers’ second try but Vereniki Goneva exchanged passes with Tait to go over at the other end just before the break. Ford’s three second-half penalties then put Leicester firmly in charge. Elliot Daly and Matt Mullan will miss the Portugal camp after picking up injuries in Wasps’ 38-22 win at Northampton.
