Listen to the workers
TO the liberal chattering classes, it’s an article of faith that Britain’s poorest demand higher taxes for the wealthy, while the greedy rich want to pay less.
But not so, finds the Joseph Rowntree Foundation: ‘Those in the lowest income group are more likely to think that taxes are too high overall, for everyone, while those on high incomes are less likely to have this view.’
Indeed, seven in ten of the poorest believe they can help themselves out of trouble, while 51 per cent say they are over-taxed.
Meanwhile, the worst-off families are more worried by high levels of immigration than about finding jobs or the impact of crime.
Is it too much to hope that the patronising Left will start listening to the views of working people – and stop telling them what they ought to think?
