First PC to use mouse could fetch £30,000
THE first computer to come with a mouse is expected to fetch £30,000 at auction.
The Apple Lisa 1, pictured, was also the first to use graphical icons instead of text and to utilise overlapping windows and pull-down menus.
The 1983 machine was replaced with the Lisa 2 a year later and owners were allowed to exchange their originals for a free upgrade.
The Lisa 1s were then destroyed; it is estimated only 30 to 100 exist today.
The design was instigated by tech pioneer Steve Jobs, who got the idea of the mouse and icons after seeing a prototype of a similar Xerox computer during a visit to the firm’s base. Xerox never put its own model into production.
The sale will take place in Cologne, Germany, on November 11.
