Allardyce says he’s the man to keep Everton up
SAM ALLARDYCE has stated his interest in becoming Everton’s next manager and would relish the chance to ‘put the team back together’.
Everton are continuing to take their time in finding Ronald Koeman’s permanent successor and David Unsworth will see out the next two games before the international break.
The club are considering their options, with Burnley boss Sean Dyche and Marco Silva of Watford among the candidates, but Allardyce is attracted to the idea of working at Goodison Park.
Allardyce (right) has had opportunities to go back to work since leaving Crystal Palace in May, but none have had the appeal of Everton.
They are in the bottom three after a dreadful start to the season, and Allardyce believes he has the expertise to get them out of trouble.
‘Who knows? I’d have to consider that, if that phone call happens,’ said Allardyce. ‘There’s no point in speculating at the moment, David Unsworth is in the chair. ‘Joe (Royle) sat upstairs will have an opinion but at the moment it looks like it’s really going to be tough for Everton to get out of that position.’ Speaking to beIN SPoRTS, Allardyce added: ‘They know what the problems are. They just perhaps want a bit of guidance now to rectify those problems. ‘ I’ve been in this position a number of times in the last three clubs I’ve had and I just put the team back to basics.’ Everton go to Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday, and if they lose they will effectively be out with two games of the group stage to go. Unsworth is considering making significant changes to his team for the match in France, given how important Sunday’s home game with Watford has become.
