IT’S ABSURD, SAYS KNEEGATE ‘VICTIM’

-

THE journalist whose knee was touched by Sir Michael Fallon 1 years ago said last night that if he had quit as a result of her story it was ‘the most absurd resignation of a Cabinet minister ever in the history of the world’.

Julia Hartley-Brewer, 49, warned ‘this has all got out of hand’ as the Defence Secretary stepped down, days after admitting to the incident at a dinner at the Tory party conference in 2002. Miss Hartley-Brewer had made clear she was ‘not a victim of any crime ... this was misjudged workplace flirting’ – and even tweeted a photo of her knees to prove they were ‘still intact’.

After Sir Michael’s resignation, she told Sky News: ‘If this is over Kneegate – him touching my knee 1 years ago, me not having any issue with it today – then this is the most insane, absurd and ridiculous resignation of a Cabinet minister ever in the history of the world.

‘If there is something else that’s going to come out that he feels the need to resign about, then that’s the right decision. I don’t think he should resign based on touching my knee.’
