Clegg’s Unholy Trinity DID discuss bid to stop Brexit
LEADING Remainers discussed how Brexit could be stopped when they met Brussels chiefs earlier this week.
Lord Adonis said the discussion with the EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier renewed his confidence that the split with Brussels could be reversed.
The Labour grandee, Tory veteran Ken Clarke and former Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg, who together were dubbed the ‘Unholy Trinity’ by Brexiteers, previously refused to say why they made the journey.
But writing on Twitter yesterday, Lord Adonis said: ‘[It is] clear from discussions in Brussels on Monday that the UK can stop the process of leaving the EU whenever it likes before the end of March 2019.’
He also accused the Prime Minister of making a ‘mistake’ by triggering Article 50 without a ‘clear plan’. He added: ‘Parliament must now take control and halt Brexit.’
