Eye of the beholder

I ALWAyS thought my house was clean and tidy — until I had a cataract operation.

On the second day after the op, I removed the eye patch. Everything was crystal clear, But, horror of horrors, what was that stain on the carpet? Where did those black marks round the windows come from? What were those cobwebs doing up there?

Worst of all, who was that lady with a lined face looking at me from the mirror? My husband kindly said they are ‘lines of beauty’.

The post-operative instructions say I must not bend, lift anything heavy or do strenuous exercise, so housework is off limits.

I must grit my teeth and watch the dust build up.
