Ooh la la! Anyone for a mince pie croissant?

-

IF YOU are already looking forward to the array of novelty baked goods filling shelves as Christmas approaches, take a deep breath and prepare for the newest creation: the mince pie croissant.

The ‘mincessant’ combines the buttery pastry of a croissant with the nostalgic filling of fruity mincemeat — coated with a large helping of sugar. London bakery chain Paul has christened its creation the ‘Croissant Nicholas’ — ho ho ho! It hopes to create an Anglo-French alliance, crossing the French treat with the medieval English mince pie. This festive delight comes hot on the heels of hybrids such as the croissant doughnut (the ‘cronut’) and croissant roll (the ‘croll’).

The mince pie croissant will be available in Paul branches from November 28 — for a steep £1.75.
