Dealing with sex pests

-

I MUST praise journalists Julia Hartley-Brewer and Sarah Vine as voices of sanity in this fevered witchhunt over sex pests (Mail).

In the Seventies, I worked in a pub at lunchtime to fit in with my children’s school hours. One day, as I collected empty glasses, one of the regulars grabbed my breast.

I told him in no uncertain terms, in front of the other customers, that if he ever touched me again I would smack him in the mouth. I had no more problems with him or anyone else — the lesson had been learned.

While serious assaults must be dealt with appropriately, a hand on the knee or a pat on the bottom is hardly enough to stir up the current commotion and should be responded to on the spot.

Mrs J. AMOS, Bexleyheath, Kent. IF OUR MPs spent less time playing around with female assistants, flipping their homes and fiddling expenses, they would be able to deal with really important matters, such as the crises in the NHS, housing and law and order. RAY H. DOVER, Ingatestone, Essex.
