WHAT DOES HE NEED?

A LOAN at Aberdeen last season gave a necessary dose of reality to his occasionally over-confident approach. At 17 he seemed a little cocky but his experience in Scotland sharpened him up. He is not over-physical but is undeterred by tough opponents. He will face stronger marking in future but has the ability to let the ball do the work. His coach clearly has confidence in him, giving him a regular place and also the responsibility of taking free-kicks. Maddison is a work in progress but has adapted well and is now a respected schemer.
