Injured Nadal could miss London finals

- MIKE DICKSON

THIS month’s Nitto ATP World Tour Finals at London’s O2 Arena are rapidly losing their glitter with Rafael Nadal’s participation in doubt. The world No 1 is going to Spain for tests on his knees after pulling out of yesterday’s Rolex Paris Masters quarter-finals. Nadal is now pessimistic about playing in London a week tomorrow. ‘I did one treatment to try to play today, but it’s impossible,’ said Nadal. ‘It’s not about London. It’s about longer term.’ There was a further blow to organisers when Juan Martin Del Potro, who could have added some stardust to the eight-man field, lost to John Isner and was knocked out of the race for the final spot. Injury has already robbed the O2 event of Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic, Milos Raonic and Kei Nishikori.
