EVRA FACES LENGTHY BAN FOR FAN ATTACK
PATRICE EVRA is facing a long ban after UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings over his kung-fu kick to a fan’s head.
European football’s governing body will hold a special hearing on Friday to decide the Marseille left back’s fate and are expected to come down hard on the 36- year- old, who has been handed an initial one-match ban.
The former Manchester United defender’s future at his French club also looks in serious doubt. Marseille last night suspended him and have opened their own investigation into his wild attack on one of their own fans, which occurred before Thursday’s Europa League match at Vitoria Guimaraes.
Marseille, fourth in the French league, said in a statement: ‘A professional player must maintain self- control despite provocations and insults, no matter how unjustified they may be.
‘At the same time, the club can only condemn any destructive behaviour by pseudo-supporters which hurts their own players at a time when they should instead be showing support.’
