Is broken Moyes the man to fix West Ham?

- CRAIG HOPE

DAVID MOYES was a broken man by the time he left Sunderland in May, robbed of self-belief and enthusiasm for his trade. When he arrived in July 2016, Sportsmail joined him in the French town of Evian for pre-season. on the shores of Lake Geneva, he shared his plans for the future. He was ambitious. Within a month, Moyes was drowning in a sea of his own negativity. He never recovered, instead choosing to tell the world at every opportunity of the problems he had inherited and the broken promises of owner Ellis Short. He was being honest, refusing to sugarcoat a grim situation, but in doing so he failed in his duty to manage a club and his players. They very quickly lost faith in their boss and relegation was inevitable. Moyes was to blame, as much as he may protest otherwise. Come the end, he looked like a man who had fallen out of love with football. What has six months away from the game done for his mindset? It looks like we are about to find out at West Ham, a job he will be extremely lucky to land given the wreckage of his season at Sunderland. There were mitigating factors on Wearside, but the Scot’s negativity dragged the club down. West Ham need energy, it is a surprise they look certain to turn to Moyes.
