Sack Bilic now – before situation turns toxic

- CHRIS SUTTON

SACKING Slaven Bilic is the right call. West Ham are leaking goals at an alarming rate, the players’ confidence is at rock bottom and they need a different voice at the helm. I feel for Bilic. He is a passionate manager who wears his heart on his sleeve. But he was lucky to survive the 3-0 hammering by Brighton and supporters will have left the Liverpool game on Saturday night thinking: ‘What has changed?’ West Ham’s owners are not serial sackers and any decision on Bilic will not be taken lightly. But are West Ham good enough defensively to stay in the Premier League? Right now you would say no. West Ham have now shipped at least three goals in 10 of their 30 matches at the London Stadium. Their problems at the back are even more baffling given that Bilic himself was a defender. With Bournemouth and Everton winning, West Ham are in the bottom three and the international break is a good time to make a change. Never mind running, whoever takes over has to hit the ground sprinting — especially if the new man is David Moyes. West Ham now face trips to Watford and Everton either side of a home game against Leicester. Moyes would need three positive results before he takes on Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal in December. The mood at the London Stadium is already sinking. If things do not turn around quickly, it will become toxic.
