Villagers sick of slow web speeds put effigy of BT van on bonfire!
VILLAGERS angry at their slow internet speeds took out their frustration by setting fire to a model of a BT Openreach van at a community bonfire.
Locals in Templeton, Devon, decided to turn up the heat on the telecommunications company after becoming fed up with broadband speeds of less than 1 megabit per second.
Roger Linden, 68, said villagers were told the problem would be looked at three years ago. But he has been left to endure a speed of 0.7 megabits per second, meaning he is only able to occasionally browse the internet.
Mr Linden said: ‘It’s incompetence of the first order… but we all had a great evening watching the bonfire.’ The effigy of the BT Openreach van had the word ‘open’ replaced by ‘won’t’.
Openreach develops and maintains the main telecoms network, which is used by other broadband providers.
BT said: ‘Templeton is an extremely rural community which makes rolling out fibre broadband much more challenging.’ It said it was also looking at a mobile broadband solution to the issue.
