Jab for tingling hands means you avoid an op
A SImPle injection has been developed to help patients with carpal tunnel syndrome avoid surgery.
Researchers at the Upper extremity Institute in the U.S. are using a procedure known as hydroneurolysis to treat the condition, which is caused when a nerve in the wrist becomes trapped.
First a probe that emits ultrasonic waves is used to produce an image of the muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons and the position of the nerves.
With this picture as a guide, pressurised fluid is injected to separate the trapped nerve from the tissue. This achieves the same effects as surgery, say the researchers, who claim almost 80 per cent of patients experience relief.
