BORROWERS are increasing­ly missing out on mortgage deals because surveyors are marking down the value of properties compared to the estate agent’s estimate, say mortgage brokers. This can affect how much the buyer can borrow and can lead to the deal collapsing. Experts say the increase in so-called down valuations could be over fears of falling house prices.
