The secret of Debbie’s Strictly splits? A spoonful of silver ... and a spot of yoga

- By Susie Coen Showbusiness Reporter

SHE has impressed the judges with her incredible standing splits on Strictly Come Dancing.

Many viewers may assume Debbie McGee’s secret is her professional ballet training. But the 59-year- old has revealed that she keeps fit and healthy by taking a spoonful of the supplement Active Silver each day.

‘I love my food and health supplements,’ said the widow and former assistant of magician Paul Daniels.

‘I have a spoonful of Active Silver every morning, which builds up your immune system, and omega and fish oil supplements.’

The silver supplement contains tiny amounts of the metal suspended in liquid and is promoted as having antibacterial qualities.

Miss McGee also told Closer magazine how trips to the gym have boosted her flexibility. ‘I’ve always been fit and do an 8am Ashtanga yoga or Pilates class at my local gym three or four times a week,’ she said. ‘I don’t think my ballet training has helped me on Strictly, it’s my yoga.

‘It keeps you supple and strong and Pilates maintains your core.’

Her health regime helped Miss McGee achieve the first perfect 40 score of the series last week for her tango with partner Giovanni Pernice. Judge Bruno Tonioli has also said she is ‘very, very, very, bendy’. Miss McGee told how dissolvable vitamins give her a boost during rehearsals. ‘I always have tablets in my handbag and stick one into my water bottle if I need a bit of energy – it peps me up,’ she said. A size eight, Miss McGee has said she has ‘always felt sexy’ regardless of her age and would never have plastic surgery.

People have become too obsessed with their appearances and there are more important things to worry about, she added.
