Bulletproof school bag

-

AN American private school is selling bullet-resistant panels for pupils’ backpacks to protect them in the event of shootings.

The £90 panels, weighing less than 1lb, are designed to slip easily into bags. They are said to be able to protect against bullets such as a .44 Magnum or a .357 SIG, both pistol cartridges.

Pupils at Florida Christian School, Miami, are told to hold bags with the panels over their chests if they are being shot at.

George Gulla, the school’s head of security, said: ‘I’d rather be prepared for the worst than be stuck after saying, “Wow, I wish we would’ve done that.”’ He told the Miami Herald ‘it gives you extra peace of mind’.
