Jesus set to land £100k deal
MANCHESTER CITY are set to offer Gabriel Jesus a new contract worth over £100,000 a week, less than a year after the Brazil striker moved to the Etihad. It is understood that the player’s agent, Cristiano Simoes, has flown to Manchester to open talks while the 20-year-old is on international duty. Jesus signed a £70,000-a-week contract when he agreed to join City in the summer of 2016, before completing a £27million move from Palmeiras in January. But he has made such an impact that City recognise the need to reward him with a new deal. He scored seven goals in 11 games for the club last season despite suffering a broken metatarsal, and has scored nine in 16 this term. There is no hurry to agree terms considering he has only been at the club for 11 months, and City are known to be keen to agree new terms with David Silva, Fernandinho and Kevin De Bruyne first of all. But it is a measure of Jesus’s progress that City are offering him a pay rise so quickly. The increase draws him level with John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan among the club’s higher earners.
